When Metal Blooms: Creating our Hand-Forged Rose Gate
Some gates are simply there to close off a space. Others become part of the garden.
This hand-forged rose gate was designed to do both.
From the first sketch to the final coat of paint, the aim was to create something secure, durable and practical, but also artistic enough to make an entrance feel special. The client wanted a gate that didn’t look manufactured or flat — something with depth, movement and character. The result is a flowing framework of twisting vines and individually forged roses, brought together in a bold, brilliant blue.
Hand-Forged, Petal by Petal
Every rose on this gate was made by hand.
There’s no laser cutting, no stamped shapes, no shortcuts. Each flower begins as flat steel, then is heated, textured and shaped petal by petal until it blooms. Because of that process, no two roses are identical — they carry the small variations that make forged metal feel alive.
The vines were drawn out under heat and bent gradually, following a natural, climbing pattern. Hammer texture adds detail and catches the light, especially with a glossy finish.
Strong Steel, Made to Last Outdoors
Although the design looks delicate, the gate is built from solid steel. It’s made to handle everyday use and British weather without twisting or warping. After fabrication, the steel was finished in a durable, weather-resistant coating, giving the gate its striking bright blue colour while protecting it from rust and rain. The end result is eye-catching now and built to stay that way.
Security Without Spoiling the Design
A decorative gate still needs to work as a gate.
This one includes a heavy-duty lock and latch system, fitted neatly into the design so it doesn’t distract from the artwork. The framework was made to measure, ensuring a clean fit between the brick wall and timber fencing — even in a narrow, awkward space.
A Gate That Feels Personal
A piece like this isn’t just a barrier; it becomes part of the home. It transforms a side entrance into a feature and gives visitors an immediate glimpse of the owner’s taste and personality. It’s the kind of gate you stop and look at — even in the rain.
Custom Designs Available
This style of gate can be created in any colour, size or theme. Some homeowners choose roses, others prefer leaves, ivy, scrollwork or clean modern lines. Matching railing panels, number plates or larger driveway gates can also be made to continue the same design throughout the property.
